Ken Wigglesworth

Ken started with Newbury Ventures in 2001 and has been in the venture capital industry for over six years. Based in Ottawa, Canada, Ken focuses on investments in communications and networking. Ken has served on the Boards of a number of Newbury portfolio companies including Liquid Computing, Sandvine (listed on AIM and TSX), Meriton, (acquired by Xtera Communications), Abridean (acquired by nCipher), Laurel Networks (acquired by ECI), Bridgewater (listed on TSX), Spotwave, NewStep Networks and Highwave Optical Technologies (listed on Euronext). Ken also currently sits on the Board of Hydro Ottawa, and has also previously been a board or an advisory board member for a number of companies including Tundra (listed on TSX) , Sonoma (Nortel), Infopreneur (March Networks), Good Contacts (Reunion.com), and Ridgeway Research (Breconridge). Over the last six years, Ken is also a member of the Investment Review Board of Venture Coaches, a seed fund focused on wireless and optical opportunities.
Prior to Newbury, Ken had 13 successful years at Newbridge Networks (now Alcatel) where he held a variety of senior management roles and was instrumental in growing the company from a start-up phase to a large, mature, multinational company. He was appointed EVP Administration and CFO of Newbridge in 1996 and was closely involved in the $7 billion Alcatel acquisition of Newbridge. As CFO, Ken also played a key role in the creation, incubation and financing of many start-up companies through the Newbridge Affiliate Investment Program including Abatis (acquired by Redback), Cambrian (acquired by Nortel), Pixstream (acquired by Cisco),Vienna Systems (acquired by Nokia) and Juniper Networks (JNPR).
Ken earned his designation as a Chartered Accountant from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1987. An avid hockey fan, he lives in Ottawa with his wife and three daughters.
